hunger.  ignited.

What is it about some children of the Lord that has sparked this contagious romantic passionate pursuit of the Lord?  It’s unlike any religious pursuit witnessed.  It’s a pursuit that causes one to linger in His presence… to consume his/her thoughts every moment of the day on His glory… to continually thank Him and meditate on His beauty all around us.  Hanging around such contagious people just provokes me to want to love on Him more [iron sharpening iron].  There’s the word… provoke.

I’ve often wondered if this contagious pursuit one acquires is a quality one is born with or a quality a seasoned believer can naturally learn after spending so much time in His presence.  That’s been on my mind lately, wondering if I can somehow spark a new flame in believers around me or if only a few can be sparked in that way.

Yet I feel that over the seasons, those who have had that fire have lost it… not because they don’t have a continual hunger within, but because the iron around them has become absent, either having moved away or grown cold themselves.

Father, what must it take for us to ignite that flame within us?  Help surround me more with those who hunger and thirst after your truth… I mean, those who seriously hunger and thirst.  In Jesus’ Name I pray… Amen.

  1. i think all believers have the capacity to be set on fire by the Lord – it’s the ones that are foolish enough to believe He’s able to do it and that He’s worth it. none of us are more inclined than another to be more glorious for God; God is the one who must ignite it in our hearts – that’s grace 🙂 but, like you said, we can be so glorious that others become hungry – it allows them to peek into a window of a world they may have only heard of, yet never experienced. God says that if we don’t shine people will neither see him or know him. i think you’re right, we must keep iron-sharpening friendships around us our whole lives. we see people running at a faster pace, so we think, “i want to stay in pace with that person” – it’s so good!

it doesn’t matter if it’s a fire or flame.. they both need fuel.. many don’t know how to get fuel and feed the fire.. prayer, reading the word, fellowship, serving others, worship, they are ALL good fuels…if anyone ever needs to borrow my chainsaw, let me know..it cuts chains off too…. rex

    remember to pray ALL ways…

It’s something only God enables us to attain.  Because I know with my own efforts, I can’t cause a hunger or desire to linger… He molds our hearts to His.

I’m not sure about whether or not everyone is able to experience this…. that brings us to many more complex, theological questions….
