confession @ the airport…

Why do airports always remind me of how single I am?  I have that feeling of anticipation when I get off the plane that someone I love, somehow will know exactly where to be, has checked all the times and will surprise me with a simple smile when I walk into baggage claim.  That’s the little stuff that makes my day.  It’s got to be because I’m latin (that’s my latest excuse now-a-days).  I usually dismiss these thoughts only to have my mother and close friends remind me of this quest.  I usually give them a bone and let them know who’s got my attention. My mom responds well to proof (pictures preferably); she thinks I make it up.

Why am I single?  I have no idea.  Perhaps I’m just too much of an old-fashioned romantic, looking for someone that will not just tolerate it, but embrace it.  In my culture (latin), if a man really likes a woman and really wants to show it… i mean, he really wants to show it… he’ll hire a mariachi band and in the evening go to the woman’s home (who is still living with her father) and have the band start playing behind him.  This wakes the whole family.  If the father is ok with it, the daughter walks out.  Simple as that.  In the culture, this is just one illustration of how we love… latins are crazy-romantic like that.

At this point, I don’t even know why I’m typing this post… I guess I’m just being honest considering I’m in the mood.  I know I’ll probably get some posts like “learn to trust in the Lord better”, “allow the Lord to fill this void”, etc… and I am (the Lord is amazing!)… I just thought I’d share considering that I’m at the airport and just want to release my thoughts on a computer.

  1. Hey…being a romantic isn’t a bad thing.

The hard thing is finding a girl who actually enjoys stuff like that in today’s culture. *shrug* The world teaches them that being a romantic is a falsehood, leading only to broken hearts and shattered hopes.

I don’t think that it is so much you who needs to “learn to trust the Lord better” (to quote your post), but most Christian women who need to.

Personally, I think you’re a pretty amazing guy, and I am proud to have served with you this past year as an MA. Thanks for your wisdom my friend. Whomever the Lord brings into your life is going to be on very lucky women.

  2. I wasn’t going to give you any of those responses. In fact, I was going to say that I think you should hire a mariachi band. Send it to some random house and see who walks out. Haha. It would be entertaining at least? Or maybe send it to a lady who has grabbed your attention lately…?

Eh, I know whenever you find someone, she will be amazing. And if she isn’t, I’ll just have to punch her in the face =P I don’t like punching people though, so avoid that, ok?

  3. OH you are so funny Mr.  Latin man…

I recently experienced the “go-get her”  way of life with a latino recently.

You sure are right.  They see a woman they want and they are NOT passive one bit!

Sad thing was that He is not a Christian so it had to end…quickly, otherwise I would have been “woo-ed” in!

    Scary.

So I just had to comment on your post here.   I thought it was funny!

  4. LOL…Megan Webb…you make me tickle.

I wasn’t going to say any of those comments either…Latin cultures sounds exciting…maybe I’ll visit and really experience it.

    hmmm?

Nothing wrong with being a romantic…your future wife will like that quality alot…and like Meg said, she will be amazing and if she’s not then she’ll be getting punch number two from your other sister.

  5. Hey Erik,
I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to you before you left. You have been such an encouragement to me this year, more than you know. You really blessed me. Whoever the Lord brings to you to spend the rest of your life with is going to be one amazing woman, seriously. You deserve it. I pray the Lord will bless you and prosper you in all you do. God Bless.

  6. Hmm… the mariachi thing kind of fits you- so straight forward and all that…

Go see Red Eye- it is stereotypical (since you like that sort of thing) but enjoyable none the less…

And I don’t think you should use the “I’m Latin” excuse anymore- you’ve used it far too many times.  From now on, just say, “I’m Erik.”  People will understand.

    🙂

  7. mariachi music/bands are…interesting.  I think it would be hilarious to walk outside to that in the middle of the night, even next door.  Our houses are so close to each other it would probably wake up all of my neighbors and their dogs!

I don’t know any female that doesn’t like romanticism from the one she desires…even if they aren’t followers of Christ…

*Hey, Congrats on the TM marketing thing!!! It’s ironic, but I’m really glad that it’s you going. 🙂 You’re great for that role.
