you’re going to think i’m a freak. please remember that i am in the process of writing a book on relationships right now — or attempting to anyway — and that’s why this topic has been engrained in my mind recently. now, i’ve used this in several speeches, discussions and conversations and have had all sorts of feedback. please don’t read into it, i just would like to see what your reaction to it is (for those brave enough to give it).
derived from romans 7:15,18b,19,21,24 (NIV):
I do not understand what i do. For what i want to do i do not do, but what i hate i do… for i have the desire to do what is good, but i cannot carry it out. For what i do is not the good i want to do; no, the evil i do not want to do — this i keep on doing… so I find this law at work: when i want to do good, evil is right there with me… what a wretched man i am! who will rescue me from this body of death?
the law of infatuation (for use of a better name)
i do not understand what i do. For who i want to like, i don’t like, but who i don’t like, i like…. for i have the desire to like who i want to like, but i cannot carry it out. For who i like is not the person i want to like; no, it’s the person i don’t like that my mind is set upon… so i find this law at work: when i want to like the right person, someone else i shouldn’t like is right there with me… who will rescue me from these hormones?
That’s actually pretty funny, but sad at the same time because for some people ( maybe more than I know) it’s the truth!
haha, that made me laugh, but sadly true – like good girls who are attracted to the bad boys…
The mystery of it all is beautiful yet frustrating at the same time…
Interesting parallel. Makes sense though.
I like.
Yeah…I’ll totally buy your book.
You’re going to write up a study guide for it too right?
Makes sense to me, although I must say that I feel a little bit like it’s incomplete.
An echo of a truth.
Maybe it’s just my conviction that people look upon relationships too much as salvation, I don’t know.
I like the profile pic, by the way. Very fitting.
Sounds very screwed up… much like many young women I know and love.
My reaction is that it sounds pretty human to me. Not that it makes it wrong or right, just something that man in bound to struggle with. This illustration could probably be applied to many situations in life. I think if we had control over this odd series of events illustrated by Paul we would have enough control over our lives to be almost perfect. I guess that is my reaction. I do have to agree with the comments above as well. Also in that second sentence is that supposed to read: For who i want to like, i don’t like, but who i don’t want to like, i like ?
haha, that’s who wrote the song written below it… I can see now that it would sound a little confusing – *changing it* 🙂
I think that’s hilarious! I almost fell out of my chair laughing. It’s so true sometimes. 🙂
I like that post…it is mostly true too.
Another question: Are you coming to the wedding? Please read my post for today…And that post to explain everything…:) I miss you, Erik! and hope you will be able to come…I can’t wait to hear your joke and laugh like crazy…You make me smile…Take care, Erik! love ya, Bro!!!
Leigh-Anne
lol. that’s so funny, cause I used to HATE the term preggo…but then my friend at school started using it and I’ve just fallen in the love with the term…it’s so funny just to say!!
I feel like…wait…I am living it now…
I was actually discussing this similar topic to my mother…I would elaborate but this is the world-wide web.
Great parallel though.
well, you’re quite far away, it seems. i’m in columbus….
I simply laugh…and love you Erik.
what?!? columbus is the state capital! well anyway, it’s right in the center of the state, where I-70 and I-71 meet… about 3 hrs from toledo, i believe
Did you see Jamie Weathers is in my chaplain dorm group!?! (she’s in my picture page 🙂
Erik- theres more at http://www.boundless.org
good stuff…usually cuts me in half!
im sorry…
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. … Colossians 3:1-2 …
Hi…Hope you don’t mind some random person posting on your xanga… But I like what you said. Even though its a bit of a brain twister, it’s definetely true! Hope the book writing goes well! (I’d say good luck, but who believes in that? 🙂
Where in FL do you live? You know I think I vaguely remember you from TM when I was there a couple of summers ago… (extreme camps) Do you know Kristen Painter?
Fascinating latin papi. LOL I miss you and cant wait to talk to you again brother. LOL Just remember women want to be a part of an adventure not be the adventure. John Eldredge say’s.
“women want to be a part of an adventure not be the adventure.”
