the january ’04 class

T’was only yesterday that these beautiful people arrived on campus… I remember just standing at the airport, holding an “Honor Academy” sign and having them just flock to me.  Well, some of them weren’t that easy.  I remember Louis Colon just wandering in the airport for 8 hours and I was the first to find and greet him…. I would’ve missed him had he not had “Louis Colon” written in big letters all on his box (I’m sure he thanked his mom for that one).  I remember seeing Beth Holder come right up to me and ask, in a very straight tone, for a ride on the shuttle… she wasn’t on any sheet and almost struck me as some random person playing a joke on me.  Weird, but we still laugh about it to this day.  Although we now must part ways and get ready for a new January class (and they’ll be great), the January class of 2004 will forever be remembered in our hearts.  Thank you for the laughs, pranks, tears, hugs, love, ministry, beautiful memories, and playing a great role in my extended family. *sniff* Well, as a token of appreciation, I will even include my famous (in my own mind) “top 10” list that I started for last august’s graduation, with of course, a slighly modified version for the January class (sorry, couldn’t help it):

top 10 reasons you know graduation is near…

10. interns begin packing their belongings every night in anticipation for departure

9. interns begin to freely give things to others (i.e. Augusts) to help lighten their load

8. interns begin to more rapidly populate their address books

7. interns begin to taking more random pictures of their cores, advisors & friends

6. more and more interns are obtaining and reading Xanga sites to “reflect”

5. interns are more anxious to see and get to know each other

4. dorm rooms throughout each hall become cleaner and more organized

3. interns begin to have more inspiration about fundraising

2. interns begin to secretley discuss plans to attend the post-graduation co-ed dance party

And the #1 sign that you know graduation is near…
1. Interns begin to receive letters from the opposite gender with the words:

“do not open until january 16th – 8:31pm”

  3. i was a jan 2000 intern (geeze, i’m old!) but this list is still valid.  that whole letter thing is funny, though!  as for the party…well, let’s just say i had a hand in planning one that ended up flopping due to some nasty rumours…oh, well. we had fun..and there was NO dancing. :).
