my humbling moment

…in fact, I was showed up. This past Wednesday I was invited to take pictures for a lady core after the Christmas play because all the other photographers were doing “other things.” No problem, i thought, I would love to. The night came, the play was wonderful, and afterwards the core came and it was my time to take my little eBay digital camera and take pictures of the core on a beautiful stair case. I started taking pictures and noticed that the flash overpowered the shot. No problem, I’ll turn the flash off. A little factoid is that with my camera, in order to take a non-flash shot in a flash setting, the camera needs to soak every color and take 2-3 seconds to hold the picture. If anyone moved during the 2-3 seconds, the image would be blurred. In English: it’s not the fancy camera, it’s just a camera.
So there I am taking the pictures and the core, praise the Lord, ever so cooperative. As I am changing angles (mom taught me well), another guy with the massive studio digital camera, with a long zoom lens, just happens to come in and within my little 2-3 second shutter time, he has already taken 8 shots without any flash and soaking every color. The core quickly takes their attention off of me and onto mr professional with the nuclear optical camera. He’s taking pictures from the side, to the left, on top of the stair case, and anywhere else in the room that I didn’t go. While I got maybe 4-6 good shots out of a total of 16, our friend has taken a good 48 shots in half the time.
Poor Erik. I am sure that all the girls still think you are a great brother. You just need help picking out a good camera. I must say I am surprised. You always seemed to be up on the gadgets. Are you slipping away from being a techno geek? I will be praying that the Lord restores you 😉 For now you can go go get yourself an ice cream from Marble Slab and console yourself. You can get me an ice cream while your there too!
🙂
thanks for making laugh in this interesting season of transition.
we all still love you, Erik, so don’t worry about it. Laugh at yourself, there’s that old quote “laugh ant the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone”, but I’m sure that there are a few MA’s that would cry with you
Ah…you’ll be fine Erik. I still love you!
So did the core ask the other guy for his pictures?
Hey everything will be ok…I love you, Brother! You should call me sometime…hehehe (832) 237-0043 My cell phone is doing weird things. I will be heading off to Canada in about 5 day…so Merry early Christmas! I hope you have a time Christmas this year. God bless you, Erik!

It’s the thought that counts Erik! Your heart was in the right place and that was wonderful. I appreciate you!
My dear Son, all that mattered was compostion, tell me, did you aling your vertical lines with the horizontal lines, and did you have a great depth of field? You know the story of David and Goliath…..Chin up, focus and shoot….. Love you, MOM
By the way, the picture here was probably shot by a “Professional” Encouraging words Son….The red car, on the bottom right corner, is not only out of focus, it takes away from the shot. He he he he…love you….Mom
awww…Erik…i have appreciated all the times you have taken pictures for my core. I don’t care what kind of camera he has…you are still the best brother on campus. Thank you for your time today, we all appreicate your thoughtfulness. I couldn’t have spent the day with my room had you not been there for us. I’m gonna miss ya!
