40 more days…
… and then I’ll be flying to California to visit Elizabeth & Heather, my two beautiful cousins. |

I just can’t comprehend how the Lord has taken me this far from such a humble beginning. Everything from the early memories of home, family & friends I grew up with back then, to where everything is today… everything… all 13-16 years of absence, was all shown to me in a span of a week and I still wasn’t able to get it all. While I’m still processing everything I learned this weekend, I thought I’d share a few pictures that I took from a total of ~500 pics. If ever I documented a trip, it would have been this one! I hope you enjoy this as much as my mom does (who wouldn’t stop bugging me to get this up).
And here’s home from close-up
(mind you, it’s been 13 years since I last was here)

My old room (my little brother took it over).
I had a bunk bed in the very back and I got in trouble for coloring all over the wall on the right.

The beast car I grew up with (Toronado)… it no longer works, just parked

With a population of 372, check out our town’s fire truck!
(this was so cool to me!)

The rinky-dink hospital I was born in (10 min away in Greenville):

Here’s a better shot of that hospital (yeah, also very small):

Here’s a shot of our Post Office (this is a big deal in my town):

One of my aunts (she just got married a couple weekends ago):

This horse has way too many memories (and costs only $0.10!!):
(built in music… this is serious stuff here)

While I was home, I found a photo album that had a vast amount of baby pictures. Picture after picture was all new to me, so I decided to whip out the camera and take dozens of pictures of pictures from the photo album. Here’s me at 5 months:

A better shot (I was such a huge baby):

Me and mom:

Remember the Toronado (the beast car).. this is me in it:
(notice the 8-track)

Not long after, Idania (sister) was born:

We were inseparable (now she’s 20, in college and has a life of her own):

Some more pictures as a child I randomly picked:

me & grandpa:

Here’s that shot from my last post (now upright!)
(mom made this outfit for me)

Check out this view from the roads around my home:

This is the lake I grew up at (Lake Almanor)… lots of memories:

My grandparent’s house in Crescent Mills (down the hill from home):

The second night, I feasted at my grandparent’s house:
(this was worth the trip!)

This is one of the ladies that helped look after me and my cousins when I grew up… she also ruined me because I could never eat Spanish food anywhere else without comparing it with hers… everywhere I go to eat Mexican, I remember how good it was when I was 6 years old… here’s a great shot of her:

This was weird… my grandfather opened the cooler with a big smile and proudly asked me to grab a beer…

yeah, without hesitation, i definitely choose the pepsi
i also had the opportunity on a different night to bar-b-que for my family… that was such a treat for me! They all loved it, including Miguel (18), my uncle, who ate 3 (he’s the one shown with the big burger in his hands)!

My dad took me everywhere including Reno (more memories.. 2 hours away):

This was my home Theater (Quincy) about 20 min away… this is where I remember watching E.T. when it first came out (somehow, it was much bigger when I was 6):

On Friday, I was able to take my dad and little brother to the Sacramento ATF:
(my little brother met the Lord for real 5 hours after this shot…
it was as authentic as it can get for an 11 year old)

I definitely have to set this one up. When I was growing up, I was surrounded with a load of family… more specifically, three ladies who I grew up the closest with: Elizabeth, Heather & Leslie. We raced, fought, hung out, had fun, relaxed, cheated, beat each other up, then had more fun… everything… we did everything together! The memories are too many to count! Here is a picture of all of us back then:

Here’s a shot of Liz & Heather with me:

Liz & I practically hung out everywhere…

So where are they now?
Although they were all out of town, I was able to find out information on all of them
and document everything. Here’s a picture of Leslie (she was in Orlando during my visit… ironic):

Elizabeth (in college in canada, going for her PHD now) and her mother (my aunt):
(my aunt has definitely won the “my favorite aunt” award… she is amazing)

Heather (about to graduate and go for her masters) flew in and my aunt (shown above) drove
4 hours to Sacramento to visit me again just hours before my plane took off back for Texas.

She is so beautiful (the whole family is!).
A few nights before seeing Heather, I had spent 45 minutes separately with Liz and Heather each on the phone just catching up. I had instantly fallen in love with both of them, like a big brother, that when I finally met Heather, I couldn’t understand the bond that I instantly had with her. I had grown up with family, after we moved away 16 years ago, with cousins that no blood-relation at all, that when I finally saw Heather, I couldn’t comprehend that she was a true blood relative (something that has been rare to me these past 13-16 years). We have all already agreed to not let time go by again, so my aunt (again, shown above) is buying me a plane ticket to come visit all the girls in May. Since Sunday morning when I met Heather, and until now (Tuesday), I can’t get Heather and the girls off my mind! One of the very few bummers is growing up without them. I’m so glad that we can pick everything back up, despite the time lapse! I met Heather and we spent my final hour in Sacramento’s Railroad museum.

After my visit with Heather, it was straight to the airport (I ran time thin with Heather):

The trip was beautiful! I know it sounds really weird, but I honestly still can’t stop thinking about my cousins and having the opportunity of seeing all the girls in May (I just can’t get that off my mind). I also really enjoyed seeing my father, little brother and rest of the family. There was a load of family I didn’t get to see, but it was so special just to be around everyone. I’m so thankful that I was given this special opportunity to visit them (all credit to my dad for spotting me the ticket and covering my trip). If you are a die-hard picture viewer (mom), you can view all pictures (that I chose to make public) by clicking on the link below. Blessings, and if you read this entire post in its full, comment and let me know (its the longest post I’ve ever put together!).
although i posted this in my last post, I’m going to close with it
(yeah, I really like it… left to right: grandfather, me, father)

note to self… (revised 4/3) thank You, Lord, for choosing me: a little boy from the small town of Crescent Mills, CA (middle of nowhere).
(more pictures tuesday)
sneak peak…
For those of you who don’t know, i’m visiting my home town (where I was born) and family in which I haven’t seen or been here in 13 years). Here are some pictures (mainly for mom) that I’m throwing up while I have internet.
my home town:
Check out what I found from the album:
here’s where i grew up for my first 6 years (my father still lives there)
this is the little school i went to when i was 4,5 or 6

although the population is about 300, check out this view:
sorry that it isn’t upright (i have limited internet here), but check out this old photo:
and this was our family dog, princess (oh, the memories)
.. and this is one of the highlights of the trip (the gooooood food):
and before I bring out all the other pictures,
here is a picture of my randfather (left) and father (right).

One of the beautiful things I have had the opportunity to do is visit family and that has been absolutley beautiful. In my next post, I’ll be talking about the beautiful ladies that I grew up with (my cousins) and where they are now, top pictures from the trip, and what I got out of this trip. Tomorrow… we go to the Sacramento ATF.
just a little awkward…
A simple trip to Wal-Mart somehow ended up with an awkward experience that although is a little embarrassing, I’d still like to log this one away. Yesterday, I took a group of my graduate peers to Wal-Mart to get some much needed groceries. For those of you who know how valuable a Wal-Mart trip is, this one was very efficient as I have my vacation that starts tomorrow and I needed to get some last-minute groceries as I’m cooking a barbecue for the boys in the quad today (hamburgers).
As we were returning to my car and started to load groceries into my very size-limited trunk, I felt the urge to just roll the windows down and pump this beautiful love song (“Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” — oldie) that I had in my head. The other guys thought it was cute although felt awkward that it was so loud and there were people starring at us, but I just started to sing and dance along to the song as they were loading groceries.
Now to set this up, for the 20 months that I’ve been at Teen Mania, never has there been any interns that I have noticed in the parking lot…. but of course on this day… just another isle over from us, were 4 or 5 big grins from other intern ladies (including 2 CA’s) just starring in our direction (yup, they recognized the song and saw me dancing and singing). We all smiled back, but 1 second later, I immediately jumped back to the controls and killed the loudness. The embarrassment was done, but the guys got a good laugh out of it.
it’s been 13 years…

… that I haven’t been to North California, the place where my father and half my family lives… my birthplace. In just four days (Easter Sunday) I have a plane ticket to go back and visit the place where I grew up for the first 8 years of my life. The family is pumped, I’m pumped, my father is pumped… it’s just going to be a week of reunion! My dad’s been calling almost every day and we’ve already figured out who I’ll be meeting on what dates, the places he wants to take me and the recipes that I’ll be teaching him and he’ll be teaching me some as well (i got the better end of the deal though). We’ll even be going to the Sacramento ATF as well with my little brother (6th grade) that I met for the first time at my HA graduation. This is going to be a beautiful blessing.
top 10 things I’ve learned…
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been praying for me and supporting me with love, cookies, meals, glasses of water, pats on the back, encouragement, etc… over the past 3 weeks. It has not gone un-noticed as my love language is thoughtful attention when in need (is that a love language?) and little notes of encouragement on my desk, etc… a blessing.
So, I gathered a top-10 list of things I learned through this cold
10. I learned how to bake a potato. (I’m a big fan of baked potatoes)
9. I hate being sick. (this was one of the worst sicknesses I’ve ever had… blah)
8. … but i needed the rest.
7. I learned to be more confident in who I am in Christ.
6. I want to be there for others who need help and can’t move.
5. I have a better idea of who some of my real friends are.
4. P.S.: I really have beautiful friends who care for me.
3. I like to be babied. (confession)
2. I learned several ways to take better care of my body so I wont be like this when I’m old.
and the number 1 thing I’ve learned through this virus….
1. This was the first time I really missed my mom. (she took a 1am phone call from me and talked for an hour with me)
if its not one thing…
I thought I had the Flu, and was nervous that I may possibly have mono. I have neither. What I do have is a virus called pneumonitis, a secret agent named “Newman” who came into my body and gave me flu-symptoms to make me think i have the flu, while it did it’s secret plans in the background. It’s objective was to infect both of my lungs and give me pnemonia.
I went to the doctor wednesday and she told me something complicated, but I made that story up because it sounds so much better. The doctor told me that if i didn’t come see her I would have pnemonia in a week (right before my Campus Visit Weekend… that would have been really bad). Apparently it has almost completly infected my entire left lung. So the doctor gave me some antibiotics and when i picked them up, it was 6 pills (that’s it). I called the antibiotic “special agent 007” who’s sole purpose was to track and stop Neman and somehow reverse what he’s been doing with a aresonal of lung grenades to break up all the build-up. Right now there’s been several bombs released, but 007 is hot on Newman’s trail.
Yeah, I have a lot of time on my hands when I’m in bed, but that doesn’t mean I can’t use my creativity.
the flu…

so substitute the root bear bottles with apple juice and orange juice, the biology book with the book of Haggai (bible) and you’ll have a pretty accurate picture of my day. this is the first time i’ve ever had the flu, so it was a little weird at first. i’m typing this post by the grace of God (and Sudafed), but just wanted to ask you for your prayers. In fact, to help you with your prayers, I have included a sample one below that you can read and amen to right now! Hey, it’s never selfish to ask for prayer! I tried to design a prayer that works for anyone, so pray it in faith (not hope) and I’d be most grateful (thanks)!:
Father, You are worthy to be praised and worthy to be honored in word, thought and deed. Even in our circumstances, You are there, and even in our illnesses, You are there. Father, I just want to thank you for my brother, Erik, and just ask that you surround him with your love, peace and healing. I pray that You show him what You need to show him through this time and that you can make for a quick and active healing. Father, we give You all the glory and I thank You for the quick healing You are going to provide. I pray that You also show him wisdom in what to eat and to drink lots of water. Give him rest, Father, in Jesus’ Name… Amen.
mmmmm….

…it’s also very good.
